Ingredients of Field Peas
- It's 12 oz of dried field peas.
- Prepare 3 of chicken bouillon cubes.
- Prepare 1 T of garlic powder.
- Prepare 1 of tspn salt.
- Prepare 1 T of red pepper.
- Prepare 1 Cup of onion minced.
- It's 2 T of bacon grease.
- Prepare of Tabasco - 8 shakes.
Field Peas step by step
- Boil the peas for 2 minutes, drain, & cover with 2" water, sit for 4 hours minimum.
- Drain & just cover the peas with water, add garlic powder, salt, bouillon, & Cayenne. Bring to a low boil & let barely bubble for an hour.
- Saute the onion in bacon fat until just tender & add to peas.
- Turn heat up to medium-low & cook until peas are tender to preference, check seasoning.
- After they're added to your meal, they can be frozen! I pour them into Styrofoam cups to freeze dinner portions & easy defrosts..
